Gilgit: Bus going to Astor attacked near Chilas by Extremists
Accroding to our correspondent, terrorists belonging to the banned political organization Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan have stopped and fired upon buses travelling from Rawalpindi to Astor near Chilas. Atleast 25 Shiites have been killed.
Furthermore, when the buses arrived at Babu Sir, they found themselves surrounded by terrorists on motor cycles who then blindly opened fire. It is being said that the attackers were dressed as Pak Army men in Khaki. Atleast 25 Shiites were, therefore, killed on the spot where as the numbers are feared to increase as some of the injured are in critical conditions. Several of the martyrs belonged to Astor. As this news spread, the vehicles en route to Pindi from Gilgit and Skardu were called back.
It is worth mentioning that terrorists belonging to extremist organizations have often targetted Shiites in Chilas. Just this year several hundred Shiites were killed in the Massacres of Chilas and Kohistan. The death toll has reached 25, out of which 13 belonged to Astor. These are the names of the 11 Martyrs which we received; Qari Haneef, Ghulam Nabi, Musharraf, Yaqoob, Dr. Nisar, Dolat Ali, Ishteyaq, Sajid, Mohammed Mazhar, Jalal Uddin, Ghulam Mustafa
Despite these incidents having previously cost the lives of several people, the government and security agencies failed to provide the promised adequate security for the buses and for those traveling in them.
